DCAA eyes more Palaro qualifiers

Thursday, February 11, 2016
By :MARIANNE L. SABERON-ABALAYAN

altDAVAO City Athletic Association's (DCAA) 600-member delegation of athletes, coaches, chaperons and technical officials will gather for the official send-off rites set at 3 p.m. today at the Davao City National High School (DCNHS).
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte was invited to grace the send-off ceremonies along with Davao City Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta.
The Dabawenyos, who wrapped up their training here, will board Metro Shuttle buses and will leave at 7:30 a.m., Saturday for Tagum City that will host the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2016, slated Feb. 14 to 19, where slots to the 2016 Palarong Pambansa are up for grabs.
Department of Education (DepEd) Davao City division sports coordinator Alma Cifra, in an interview with Sun.Star SuperBalita Davao Wednesday, said they seek more Palaro slots this year since the city only produced 80 Palaro qualifiers last year.
She said there is no doubt that the city will harvest golds and defend its overall title. She, however, added: "Dapat namo ma-increase ang number of qualifiers nato sa Palaro (We must increase our number of Palaro qualifiers)."
Thus, Cifra said Superintendent Dr. Maria Ines C. Asuncion, Ceso 6 is closely monitoring the athletes and holding regular meetings with the coaches.
Cifra also said in the vernacular, "Our DCAA delegation is 100 percent ready".
DCAA's Davraa stint has a P5.8 million budget for meals, transportation, uniforms and other operational expenses.
The city's delegation will be billeted at the La Filipina National High School in Tagum City.
Every year, Davao City has the biggest number of athletes in the Palarong Pambansa-bound Davraa delegation.
Davao del Norte hosted the 2015 Palarong Pambansa but Davraa finished ninth overall with 13 gold medals, 23 silvers and 30 bronzes.

And may St. Anthony of Padua and St. Jude accompany her
to work necessary miracles for the good of all. AMEN.

World Teachers Day 2014
World Teachers' Day, held annually on October 5th since 1994, commemorates teachers’ organizations worldwide. Its aim is to mobilize support for teachers and to ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met by teachers.

According to UNESCO, World Teachers' Day represents a significant token of the awareness, understanding and appreciation displayed for the vital contribution that teachers make to education and development.

Education International (EI) (the global union federation that represents education professionals worldwide) strongly believes that World Teachers' Day should be internationally recognized and celebrated around the world. EI also believes that the principles of the 1966 and 1997 Recommendations should be considered for implementation in all nations.

Over 100 countries observe World Teachers' Day. The efforts of Education International and its 401 member organizations have contributed to this widely spread recognition. Every year, EI launches a public awareness campaign to highlight the contributions of the teaching profession.
